Abstract: The paper is divided in two parts. Part one involves the problems of failure mode identifications of the pit slopes. A simple stereographic diagram is given, which can be easily used to identify all of the possible failure modes of the given slopes. Four practical slope failures of different modes are mentioned in part two, showing the usefulness of the diagram. The mechanisms of the failures are briefly discussed too.
